I've been learning some of the ins and outs of this new video editing system, and am pleased to report that we now have the ability to copy the video onto DVDs. It shouldn't be long until the first tape will be available in that format, and when tape #2 is released it will be available in both VHS and DVD formats. If anyone who originally ordered the two-tape set would prefer to get the second tape in the DVD format, please send a note with that request to me at . More good news: the folks at enlightenment.com have agreed to sign on as an additional distributor of the tape, and have posted a very favorable review on their online store. It's great to be featured there next to Ken Wilbur and Terrence McKenna, and hopefully it'll reach a wildly different audience than those already tapped into the various FIC channels. The video project still has the need for folks in the network to help us get the word out. If you can write and publish a review in your group's newsletter, or convince your local library to purchase a copy, or get ten friends to each chip in $3 to buy a copy for showing at an evening salon focused on community living--that would be extremely helpful and much appreciated. I'll be happy to provide some graphics if needed...just send a request to . It's a great way to spread the idea of community! This year wešll do it five times. Issue #119 is a normal issue sent to all subscribers which has just gone into the mail last week. Yes, it was quite late. For complicated reasons, there'll be a special extra issue #120 coming out very soon sent to subscribers who *also* subscribe to Annual Directory Updates. This special issue will not count as part of a normal paid 4- or 8- or 12- issue subscription. Most subscribers thus will see an odd numbering gap, receiving #119 and not long after that #121. Everyone will receive the number of issues paid for -- all subscribers with ongoing subscriptions will have their expiry issue number increased by one. Directory Updates subscribers will receive #120 as well since it contains Directory Updates 2003 (actually it contains all updates through and including 2003.) That's the short of it. For a detailed explanation please email order ( at ) ic ( dot ) org with QUESTION RE: #120 in the subject line. ________________________________________________________________ 4 COMMUNITIES MAGAZINE Please contribute to upcoming Seeker's Guide ________________________________________________________________ The Spring 2004 Community Seeker's Guide issue of Communities magazine will be co-edited by regular editor Diana Leafe Christian, and Patricia Greene, Reach/Classified ad coordinator and author of the Seriously Seeking Community article series. Deadline for articles is December 29th, although they'd like to know ahead of time what you may have in mind. Here's what they?re seeking: 1. If you're a member of an ecovillage, cohousing project, or other form of intentional community: How has it been hosting visitors? Easy, so-so or difficult? Do you have a regular procedure for visitors to follow? Do you have an organized way that visitors can get a sense of your community, and your community can get a sense of them? What's your experience been in selecting new members? Do you have an organized way to invite people to join you, or to respond to those who ask to join you? Do you have provisional membership status before a new person becomes a full community member? How long is it? What kinds of procedures you do have so you can learn about the new person's vision and values for community and they can learn about yours? How do you assess your method for getting new community members? What would you change about it? Do you have any advice for community seekers? 2. If you're seeking a community to join: What have your experiences been in visiting communities in a process of seeking a community to join? Have you had to schedule visits during vacation time? Has it been difficult or expensive or time-consuming? How have the communities received you? Have they been gracious and accommodating? Friendly but businesslike? Busy and brusque? How has it been assessing communities that you're considering joining? What do you use as criteria to assess your top candidates for joining? How has it worked out when you've chosen one or more communities for further visits and serious consideration? Do you have any advice for other community seekers? 3. If you've recently joined a community: * What was your search process like? * What was it about the community you joined that drew you? * If you didn't find a community you wanted to join, tell us about it. * If you've joined one, how has the orientation process been? (Is there an orientation process? If so, what's it been like?) * Do you have any advice for other community seekers?
