This is a one- stop shop for communities needing help with consensus decision- making, skilled facilitation, conflict resolution, and having better meetings. We've collected listings from a variety of facilitators and workshop leaders from around the U.S. & Mexico, all of whom have experience with the special dynamics of community living. We'd love to add some Canadian facilitators too, so please send suggestions with contact information to . Consultants are asked to donate 5% of their fee to FIC in exchange for being listed. We think it's a win for everyone: communities get easy access to needed skills, consultants get help finding people who need them, and FIC receives a small donation. http://fic.ic.org/process.html process ( at ) ic ( dot ) org ________________________________________________________________ 2 COMMUNITIES MAGAZINE ISSUE up next: ECOVILLAGES ________________________________________________________________ Ecovillages: The First Ten Years is the focus of the Spring '03 issue. What are the unique problems and trade-offs in trying to live up to their high sustainability ideals? And what can we learn from aspiring ecovillages worldwide? I'm feeling generally discouraged, and despondent about a war I don't support. Additionally, I feel helpless -- while the news anchors report hundreds of thousands marching in protest, the pundits proclaim that it won't make a bit of difference. What's a person to do? When in doubt, I make bread. While it's not a solution for world peace, it makes me and those around me feel better. There are few things more calming than watching bread dough rise, kneading it, and inhaling that heavenly aroma it while it bakes. How can one NOT feel better? Ed Brown has written what many consider the best bread book ever. This magical classic will inspire you to finally try your hand at making bread if you've never done it before. If you're already a baker, it just might change your view of this timeless, meditative, nurturing activity. Lots of recipes, encouraging advice, and reminders that you (and the ingredients) already know what to do. Our goal is to make this a dynamic event, combining informative workshops with extensive networking and plenty of fun. Our workshops will be focused on three main areas: community, sustainability and activism. Our community presenters will lead discussions on consensus and conflict resolution, including advanced workshops for those who are familiar with these processes and need tools to help overcome typical obstacles. Our sustainability track will include examples of natural building and construction, from straw bale to cob, photo voltaic systems and more. Dive in with an introduction to permaculture, followed by a one week permaculture intensive right after the conference. The conference is reaching out to peace activists from around the country to use this event for planning and organizing the movement's response to our country's dominance by the Bush military complex. This is a unique opportunity to formulate ideas and share strategy that we can all use to build peace in our lifetime. We welcome venders! Contact us if you would like to reserve a booth. Saturday night will feature bands from our main stage, an open mike acoustic stage, drumming around the bonfire and a turn table dance party. And of course you'll get to see The Farm, our home for the last 30 years. We'll have tours, a look at our history and a chance to find out about our efforts around the world and here at home to try and make a difference. We promise you an invigorating and unforgettable weekend. Find complete info including how to register at this website . See you in May! Following the Conference will be 3 events Monday May 26 will be a full day workshop for activists entitled Peacemaker 101. This workshop focuses on personal Vision Questing and emotional body clearing. Timely and transformational, it will be lead by Thomas Hupp of The Leadership School. Cost $35.00. There was lots of positive feedback. Fresh bread from The Grateful Bread at Abundant Dawn Community in southwest Virginia was added to the product line. Some lovely community photos were added to the site. Order processing and accounting features were completed, and leads developed with more potential customers and potential vendors. Developer Velma Kahn is already thinking about a tour to visit all the vendor communities once the count reaches 25 or 30. Sadly (also stupidly, I confess) I hadn't done a data backup since June when I headed out on the road to pursue the promotional tour. I was so desperate to recover the data that I paid a tech company $300 to attempt to repair the drive enough to at least read the data, but, also sadly, the drive was too far gone ... as now is the data. This loss has severely delayed my start of the editing process on tape two for two reasons, 1) I have needed to prioritize some time to reconstruct what I can of my banking records and customer database, and 2) some of the scripting was lost and may need to be done over. If you pre-ordered the two-tape set from either of the FIC offices, we're still in good shape. Any order placed before June 2001 qualifies as that's when I decided to break the project into two tapes. However, if you pre-ordered the two-tape set through me directly, there is a one-in-five chance that your order and contact information has been lost. So if you pre-ordered both tapes through me, please email me at to confirm that I still have you on my list. I had sent out the completed scripts to the featured communities, and after a review they sent back a signed release form saying that their script was accurate and approved. Since I've now lost my copies of those scripts, I'm asking them to check their records--hopefully they filed away those approved scripts, and can send me copies so that the editing can commence soon. I've got my fingers crossed. I'll certainly be relieved once the data recovery has been wrapped up and things are back to "normal." And now back to script writing...
