Ecovillage in early November), I'm back at the studio at The Farm in Tennessee, and am diving back into the project. At last report I was nearing completion on a new segment: the Catholic Worker House of San Antonio (TX), and i'm now ready to run that by them for their final sign-off ... essentially affirming that I got the story right in terms of how they see themselves. Recently a few supporters have asked what they can do to help accelerate the release of volume two, and upon examination it became obvious that what would help the most would be funding to hire friends here at The Farm (professional editors) to edit some of the ten remaining segments. We're guessing it will cost about $2,000 to finance the editing of each 10-minute segment--a bargain rate that is well below the going industry standard. So far i have pledges for two segments, and could use another three or four to really get things moving forward. At this point i can't promise any specific release date, but after a few more segments are in the can, i may be willing to hazard a prognostication. Know anyone who might be inspired to adopt a segment? I'm really excited by the prospect of getting back out "on the road" and doing a fast- paced wide-ranging promotional tour, but i won't start scheduling shows until the release of vol#2 is imminent. Let me know if you'd like to sign up to help bring the show to your locale, and i'll give you a couple month's advance warning to help set something up. I have all the equipment needed to do such a presentation, so all i'd need from you is a venue and some enthusiastic publicity. At this point, DVD sales have become the norm, and it's rare that I sell any copies in the now relatively ancient VHS format. If you ordered the "Visions of Utopia" set long ago (including during the original offering--before it grew officially into two volumes), you're most likely signed up to receive volume two in the old VHS format. If instead you'd like it in DVD format, please let me know at . -Geoph Kozeny Producer/Director More information http://fic.ic.org/video/ Order a copy of Volume One (VHS or DVD) for yourself or to share with your friends. The public response to this initiative was highly positive and in 1995 a comprehensive model for the creation of senior cohousing communities in Denmark was adopted. Inspired by this and the growth of the cohousing movement in other countries and the United States in recent years, architect Charles Durrett has written an in-depth guide for those interested in this type of community as a lifestyle. Providing a proven, phase-by-phase methodology for creating senior cohousing and an inside look at existing senior cohousing communities, both here and abroad, the author has created a comprehensive handbook for seniors, housing professionals, designers, and anyone seeking appropriate housing alternatives for the dynamic older people of our time. The text is generously supplemented with excellent photographs showing the communities and their residents. I liked the fact that many of the photos were of actual living spaces and other interiors and that people were shown pursuing normal inside and outside activities. There are very few of the posed group photos that are seen in some other books on community. There are also a number of excellent sketches schematic drawings, and models that are used to illustrate points made in the text and space planning possibilities. Rich in ideas and inspiration, I highly recommend Senior Cohousing to anyone interested in planning such a community, living in one, or who works with seniors.
