Want to learn more about creating community in your life with intention?
Do you seek to add to your cooperative skill set & increased collaboration opportunities ?Interested in meeting folks from intentional communities around the country?

Register now for the FIC's participatory conference gathering,
Art of Community!

Art of Community offers a wealth of opportunities to educate and network around the values and practices of living in cooperative culture, to share ideas and knowledge about creating and living in intentional communities, and to immerse oneself in the concept of living "in community" with each other and our environment. This year's theme is "People, Place, and Purpose." (Read more about this year's theme.)

Art of Community is a participatory gathering! You’re invited to connect directly through interactive workshops, presentations, and activities, and to learn about concepts which are essential ingredients for building resilient, thriving communities.

Central to this year's A of C vision is inspiring people to purposefully engage in Place-Making . Featured speaker Mark Lakeman of Portland's City Repair Project will share his wisdom and stories about his involvement in strengthening a community via projects which create more personal connections to “place.” For 15 years City Repair has worked to transform neighborhoods in accordance with locally cultivated visions of creativity, community, and sustainability.

Workshop topics include:

  • Overview of the Intentional Communities Movement
  • Starting or Joining an Intentional Community
  • Legalities and Financing of Communities
  • Conflict Resolution Strategies and Skills
  • Cooperative Land Ownership
  • Ecovillage and Urban Community Planning
  • Decision Making and Governance
  • Regional Community Organizing
  • Building Skills of a Cooperative Culture
  • …. and much more from over 35 talented facilitators!

Following the FIC’s Art of Community main conference weekend, we draw together folks with a fire in their belly about making a difference in the world—people who offer the heart and tools to inspire cooperative culture, who are committed to social change via the vehicle of community, and who seek higher levels of collaboration with other organizations and intentional communities. The Social Change Summit is a meeting of minds and hearts involving representatives from various communities and organizations committed to social change. It is also open to public observation and participation.

The FIC is a globally active nonprofit that has been promoting intentional communities and cooperative culture since 1987. We have a history of bringing people together in a vibrant exchange of information and inspiration. Together, we are making a difference...

Discounts for FIC members, students, and seniors available!
