Love community?
Promote FIC for the Price of a Romantic Comedy
I'm writing this special enews on behalf of the FIC's board
and staff
to invite you to hit the streets (or at least
the parking
lots) to promote good information about the
Fellowship
and community living. You may already be aware that a major
motion picture
starring Jennfier Aniston and Paul Rudd (called
Wanderlust)
will be released later this month, and it is all about
a couple's
adventure in Intentional Community. It's a romantic
comedy,
and from the trailer it looks like it'll be doing it's share
of playing
on stereotypes. It's a great opportunity for us to show that not only do communities exist, but we also have a sense of humor and can be good sports about it...and that we look pretty much like normal people, maybe even someone the average moviegoer could see themselves living next to. This could be a lot of publicity for the movement, and we intend to ride the wave and be right there with good information, good humor and good timing. Would you like to join us? We're asking our fans to contact the FIC office and have them send you a stack of FIC postcards. Ask for an appropriate number: how many can you realistically see yourself handing out? Take them with you to the theater, put one of every seat where the movie is being shown, or stand outside of the theater and hand them out as people come out. If you are feeling especially bold, stand up after the credits are done and saying something like, "Hey, that was fun! I actually live in a community. If you are curious, feel free to come chat with me." Either way, have fun with it! Strike up conversations, connect with your fellow humans (creating community right there on the sidewalk) and make it clear that community is neither dead nor a caricature of life, but a bunch of real, down to earth folks not too different from the other people who will be enjoying a good laugh at the theater. After February 24th, you can find out where it will be near you here: Under the movie description, there's a place to type your zip code in. Thanks. Have fun with it! Happy Valentine's Day Ma'ikwe for the FIC
