Fellowship for Intentional Community Graphic Redesign
Baby, Look At Us Now!
by Laird Schaub, Executive Secretary
The FIC is 23 years old this spring, and we figured it was time to start looking our age.
Way back in the fall of 2004 the Board authorized spending a couple thousand dollars in earmarked donations to hire a graphic designer to create a unified look and feel to our various projects and publications. After a couple decades, we figured it was high time that we developed a unified brand.
While it took us a while to get a new logo we liked (we wanted it to be just right), we finally agreed on it last spring, and now have a whole constellation of updated logotypes and mastheads, including what you see at the top of this weekly eNews publication.
The work was done in two parts. During the first two years, Amy Seiden of Dancing Rabbit was our lead designer and she stayed with it long enough to overhaul the design of Communities magazine. Amy's work debuted with the fall 2006 issue, and then she stepped down. After a hiatus over the winter, we engaged Mark Mazziotti of Red Earth Farms to pick up where Amy left off. We asked Mark to design new graphics that would convey a feeling of dynamic, friendly, constructive, authentic, accessible,
diverse, and bridging--and he produced a logo and attendant templates, fonts, and a color palette that do just that!
The work includes a fresh look for Communities magazine, Communities Directory, our family of websites, our print Newsletter, Community Bookshelf, our Art of Community weekend conferences, and this eNewsletter.
Now hopefully, whenever you see one of our projects, you'll know right away that it's related to all the others.
Thank you, Amy & Mark.
And thank you Robert Ryder and Peggy & Earl Loftfield, whose generous donations provided the funding that made this possible.
