Growing Smart Communities
March 20 Conference - College Park MD
by Laird Schaub, FIC Executive Secretary
Growing Smart Communities--that's the title of a one-day extravaganza being hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Cohousing regional network March 20 from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm at the
University of Maryland in College Park MD. The event is co-sponsored by FIC and UMD's School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation.
This conference will be jam-packed with workshops, presentations, and networking. Here's just a few of the people who will be available as speakers and resources for this shindig:
- Zev Paiss -- keynote speaker!
- John Buck
- CT Butler
- Dene Peterson
- Laird Schaub
- Don Tucker
- Sharon Villines
There will be tracks for new and forming groups, building communities, completed communities, and for professionals interested in working with cohousing groups.
Using a form of Open Space, there will also be a parallel open track all day available for those who wish to learn or present on a topic not covered in the programming. This is your conference and you'll have an opportunity to ask for whatever you need.
Scheduled workshops range from financing to aging in place; from permaculture to consensus; from governance to work share. And for those groups who have not yet sold all their units, or who have homes for resale, there's a special hands-on workshop being led by Neshama Abraham on Marketing in a Down Economy.
Laird Schaub will also bring the FIC's Community Bookshelf to this event, giving participants the chance to peruse and buy titles focused on community, cooperative living, sustainability, group dynamics, and right livelihood.
Please see the MAC website for details. There is a discount registration fee in effect for the next 24 people, so register now!
