About the Intentional Communities WebsiteThe Intentional Communities Website came online in 1994 and is published by the Fellowship for Intentional Community. This website complements the FIC's print publications such as the Communities Directory and Communities magazine in providing people with the information and resources needed to find, create, maintain and support intentional communities of all kinds. This website is funded by donations and sales of online ads and all labor is provided volunteer and/or at very low rates by those who support the FIC and the communities movement. About the Communities DirectoryThe FIC published its first print edition of the Communities directory in 1990 with new editions in 1995 and 2000. The FIC has also been providing online information about intentional communities at www.ic.org since 1994. In 2004 we brought the complete Communities Directory to this website and are now allowing communities to update their information online, thus providing you with the most accurate and up-to-date information available. This effort is funded through donations and volunteer labor. If you would like to support this project see our donations page. A print version of the Communities Directory has been published based on the data from this website for those wishing to have a hard copy version. One goal of this online project is to share data and data technology among community networking organizations. For years the FIC's www.ic.org had been doing so with the Coho/US's website www.cohousing.org . The FIC hopes to bring other organizations into a collaborative relationship and have dubbed this effort the Intentional Communities Data Collective (ICDC). Information submitted to this site will be available to all ICDC members and may be presented on their websites or in print publications. See our Privacy Policy for more details. Info for GeeksThe Communities Directory is written in open source software, primarily in PHP with a MySQL database. In addition we use numerous packages from PHP's PEAR architecture, and the Smarty template engine. If you want a copy of the code for any non-malicious purposes contact us AcknowledgementsThe primary coding for the Communities Directory was done by Skyhouse Consulting, with the bulk done by member Tony Sirna. Skyhouse Consulting is a business of Skyhouse Community which is located at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage . Code was also supplied by Ofek and his work on the ICDB.org site. Thanks to Elph, Charles, Michael, and McCune for their help on this site. Former contributors to www.ic.org:
