Community Description:

*Please read the etnire listing before emailing, thanks!*
Honua Oia’i’o Kauai essentially means the Truth of the Earth in Kauai or Land of Truth of Kauai.

We would like to form a small community in Kauai where the members will be able to share in the joys of life on the land!
We are particularly interested in potential members who are also musicians and involved in yoga or have other unique/artistic talents.
There will be no specific leader. Decisions by consensus/egalitarian principles.
There will be a Yoga Studio, geared towards acceptance of all levels. Prenatal, postnatal, yoga with kids, yoga for adults, intense hot yoga, intuitive yoga, restorative yoga. We practice and teach yoga and welcome other yoga practitioners and teachers.
We would also plan to have an educational community center for IC, NVC, Health Workshops, classes, meetings, Musical Gatherings, etc.
We would like to grow as much raw vegan organic food as possible, use natural biodynamic resources and build some dwellings on some acreage just east of the Anahola Heights, near the coastal enclave of land there.
****The first step is to buy the land.***
***The land is not yet bought. If you are interested in buying into the community, and have the financial resources to do so, then please contact us. ***
We are looking for 10-12 initial founding members(including immediate family of members) to each contribute at least $70,000 down on the purchase of the community owned land. (once we collectively decide on a piece of land, about 15-20,000 per member family would be the down payment. This is a lifetime membership.

Music, Yoga, and other Workshops and outputs would contribute to the payoff of the land. Members are encouraged to have work-from-home talents/skills to be able to sustain the community in the formative years.
We want this to be a safe and sustainable place for families to grow and learn in health and happiness!

If you are seriously interested in moving forward and becoming a founding member, please contact us and/or join the Honua Oia’i’o Kauai facebook planning group.
In the future, there may be spaces for work-trade, internship positions. When the land is bought, I will update this site. As off Summer 2012, there is currently no land bought yet, if you are looking for somewhere to do work-trade or internship, there are plenty of other communities on the IC list to choose from, good luck!

  • Land owned by: Community controlled land trust
  • Additional Comments: land not yet purchased. Looking to get as much land for a fair price as possible

will be built as needed as a group effort of community members

  • Adult Members: 3
  • Visitors accepted: Yes
  • Visitor Process: Email us/Join the Facebook planning group
  • Open to new Members: Yes
  • Additional Comments: The idea would be to make a co-op learning environment for children of all ages with parents taking responsibility in rotations.

  • Decision Making: Consensus (everyone agrees)
  • Identified Leader: No
  • Leadership Core Group: Yes

  • Dues, Fees, or Shared Expenses: Yes
  • Shared Income: Members have completely independent finances
  • Required Labor Contribution per Week: 0

  • Additional Comments: When the land is purchased, there will be approx. 12-16 hrs of work per week creating dwellings, gardening, childcare, meal preparation, cleaning. Jobs will be scheduled on rotations in a way that keeps everyone happy

Down payment on the land of approx. $20-30k. Depending on the final cost of the land, there will also be a monthly membership fee that all founding and visiting members will pay. Ownership shares would be sellable/transferable if all other founding members agree to new owner. The same applies if you would like to temporarily go on leave. The replacement member would pay the monthly fees and would need to be pre-approved by all founding members.

Monthly unless the land is fully paid off.

Sustainability Practices

  • Dietary Practice: Mostly Vegetarian
  • Dietary Choice or Restrictions: Not at all important – people may eat however they individually choose.
  • Alcohol Use: Yes, used seldomly, or ceremoniously.
  • Tobacco Use: No~ this community does not permit tobacco use.
  • Additional Diet Comments: as often as possible

Autonomy with regards to diet. Though community meals will need to be vegetarian with a vegan option + plenty of raw foods. Meat should not be prepared in communal areas.

Prefer that Alcohol not be used in communal spaces, respecting the fact that this is a family/children friendly community

Smoking would not be allowed within the community at all. No exceptions.

  • Education Style(s): Home Schooling, Private Schooling at the Community

Additional Comments
