Ecoculture Village

(Arcata, California, United States)

Mission Statement:

self sufficient eco community

Community Description:

Ecoculture Village is not yet a place anybody can visit, although we do have a project or two in the works at any given time… little things to make our community better.

  • Area: 11 acres
  • Land owned by: Individual community member(s)
  • Additional Comments: We have 11 acres set aside for a desert project… We seek that Ecoculture Village’s main site be a minimum of about 50 to 100 acres.

Individually owned homesites, and as non-profit entity asset, and planning to provide for wildlife conservation easements. The exact particulars need to be discussed.

We are planning to have 10-20 houses plus other buildings, including some multi-family dwellings, a village hall, etc.

    Forming and seeking site(s).

    It will be.

  • Visitor Process: We do not have a functioning physical location yet.
  • Visitors accepted: No
  • Additional Comments: Uniquely and individually determined

    Up to the parents

  • Identified Leader: Yes
  • Additional Comments: T^Boan

Initially, decision making by consensus, but as we attract more people, by elected group/commitee representation.

  • Dues, Fees, or Shared Expenses: No
  • Shared Income: Partial share of income
  • Required Labor Contribution per Week: 0
  • Additional Comments: Members should have a means of independent finances to meet their individual needs, but we will have a community fund supported by farm surplus sales, educational/consultation services, donations, grants, etc.

There will be many opportunities for all members to contribute labor to Ecoculture Village embetterment.

Fees/dues are foreseen, but the particulars have yet to be worked out.

Sustainability Practices

  • Shared meals: 2-5 times per week
  • Dietary Practice: Omnivorous (plants and animals)
  • Dietary Choice or Restrictions: Not at all important – people may eat however they individually choose.
  • Tobacco Use: No~ this community does not permit tobacco use.
  • Additional Diet Comments: As often as people like

    goal = 100%

Is there such a thing as second hand alcohol?

Commercial tobacco industries are evil, so unless grown/obtained and used in some traditional/ceremonial/spiritual manner, ABSOLUTELY NOT!

  • Common Spiritual Practice(s): Ecumenical (includes “all religions”)
  • Education Style(s): Up to each individual

Additional Comments

We would like to be rural with an eye on acquiring land adjacent or very near to National Forest or other protected wildland.

We are in the initial formative stages.
