Welcome to Acorn Community!
We are Acorn Community, founded in 1993. We are a group of people in central Virginia living, working, and playing together to build a joyful, connected life. Our community and businesses are thriving, and we are very excited about the future!

Seeking Membership at Acorn
We are currently scheduling membership visits for late summer and fall! We are currently very interested in membershipping hardworking, vibrant, friendly women. Please drop us a line anytime.
Seeking Intership at Acorn
We are currently accepting interns for late summer or fall and beyond. We also have some random spots left during the summer for short work exchange visits.
Gender Imbalance Update
June 23, 2008 - We are currently unable to accept single males as members due to a gender imbalance in our membership group. We are open to having single males come for membership visits, but any single male accepted for membership will be required to leave Acorn at the end of his visitor period and be placed on a "waiting list" until our group is gender balanced.
Family Visits Update
August 26, 2008 - If you are a family with children, thank you for the interest in our community! Acorn's membership no longer includes any families with children. Acorn members have decided to take a 6-month moratorium on membership visits for families with children. During this time, we hope to meet and develop ideas around what kind of support we can offer families, how many children we ideally envision at Acorn, and how we can best incorporate families into our community. We realize that it can be difficult for families to find open income-sharing communities, and apologize for the inconvenience, but hope this path will lead to a more fulfilling experience for potential member families. If you are still interested in pursuing membership, please keep us in mind and contact us in 2009. Thank you. ______________________ Acorn welcomes individuals with interest in long-term community commitment and involvement! We are also especially interested in folks who are skilled in construction/home repair, domestic organization and beautification, business management, communication processes and facilitation, vegetarian/vegan cooking, alternative construction, seed saving, and organic farming/gardening. We could also use some extroverts and people interested in building social culture!
If this resonates with you, check out our visiting page and ask to schedule a visit!
